KRS Races #5 & #6

We're finally getting our racing program back "on track". A very successful weekend.

We've been running with this BMW 318 most of the year and finally have fixed the motor electrics so that we are able to keep up on the straights. The results? Victory!

Saturday: Race #1

Turning times consistently in the 1:21-22 range we were able to qualify 3rd for the race. At this track 3rd is actually better than 2nd as the first 2 turns are right handers. As such we were able to tuck in behind the pole sitting BMW and follow him through the first 2 turns to easily take second place.

After a few laps we had worked together to draft down the straights and not fight in the corners...a significant lead was pulled out over the rest of the field before the Bildon car began to make a move. The GTI had superior power on the top end and was able to duck inside the BMW at "the kink" a few times. However the suspension with it's temporary shock setup and old tires was not generating enough cornering grip and we were forced to back out of the gas earlier than the BMW. It soon became obvious that we were a second place car today....and that's how it ended after 18 laps.

Sunday: Race #2

Pretty much the same story as Saturday. We were slow in the corners (compared to the regular suspension) but fast on the straights. Once again we qualified 3rd on the grid. However this time at about the 1/3 point into the race, the lead BMW who had not gotten more than a few car lengths ahead broke! The reliable Bildon VW GTI was handed the win.

In the post race analysis it turns out we turned the fastest race lap...so I'd like to think the victory may have come anyway. :)
