KRS Races #3 & #4

After the successful testing this event would be the first event of the year where the Bildon GTI was not plagued with problems....or would it?

A crowd gathers to see the new "GTI #002" that Bildon team member Don Thompson will be completing this fall.

Saturday: Race #1

Saturday's qualifying session was disapointing as we could not match our pace of the previous test. We had easily turned times in the 1:23's on that day but were able to do no better than high 1:24's on Saturday.

At least the engine was back to stock power output and that did allow us to qualify 6th of 16. But why were we so slow?

The race progressed with no change in performance and we wound up where we started in 6th. However, half way through the 15 lap event the car began to pitch side to side under braking and became unpredictable when "turning in". A post race inspection revealed that the control arm bolts had backed themselves out to the point of nearly falling out! At least this explained the poor handling. Fastest race lap was timed at 1:23.6, not bad, but certainly not easy to maintain. Perhaps consistent speed would return on Sunday.

Race #1 results.

Sunday: Race #2

Sunday morning we mounted up another set of heat cycled Kumhos as the previous day's set looked to be worn out. Perhaps more reason we were off the pace Saturday?

For qualifying the car felt immediately more predictable and braking stability had improved. Bill purposely found a clear spot on the track to get some clean laps however as the laps ticked off it was appearent that the old tires and suspension tightening had not been the sole problem. We'd be starting race #2 from a disappointing 11th place!

Determined to make something of this situation Bill passed 3 cars in the first few laps and only relinquished one spot to a non-ITB car resulting in a respectable 9th place.

There are a number of things that will be addressed for the next event now that we finally have the time to work on something other than the damaged electical system. The engine will be tweeked to provide the needed fuel and timing for more power...the suspension will be completely rebuilt, and a new splitter will be added. If we can find the power the car had 2 years ago, we'll be back "on course" Race #2 results.
