Bildon Motorsport - News
For Immediate Release:
Bildon Motorsport Supported Volkswagen Back For Finale At Laguna Seca.
Driver Brett Erickson will be making his return to the cockpit in the Bildon Motorsport supported, #12; Volkswagen Bay Area Dealer Ad Association sponsored VW Golf GTI VR6. The #12 Golf GTI sustained heavy damage in a racing incident that occurred during practice for the July 15th round of the series, at Infineon Raceway (Sears Point), postponing Erickson's SPEED World Challenge debut to this coming weekend's, final round of the Speed Touring Series. The Volkswagen Bay Area Dealer Ad Association sponsored VW Golf GTI VR6, is returning with a new look and a fresh start. This quick return to the track would not have been possible without the timely help of Sturken Auto Body, Sunnyvale Volkswagen and the Dealer Ad Association, and Bildon Motorsport.
Erickson had this to say about the upcoming weekend - "This has been one of the most daunting tasks that I've ever been faced with. We didn't have much funding and very little time to repair the damaged racecar. We pulled ourselves up after the Infineon round and immediately began the two-month reconstruction process. To make this weekend's race proves that the Erickson Motorsports team has what it takes to compete at the professional level. Debuting at the world famous Mazda Raceway-Laguna Seca will be a sweet reward for not giving up. I'm proud of what we've accomplished and really excited to be racing again. I'm looking forward to it!"
Volkswagen has not been competing in the World Challenge Touring Car Series for nearly two years. Erickson's thoughts are that maybe this is the beginning of more Volkswagen racecars returning to the series. Erickson comments, "Not only am I excited to make the final race of the year in my home track but I have some exciting news to disclose as well. I met with Rod Bymaster, Motorsport Manager of VW/Audi North America, to discus his interests in working with World Challenge regarding a Volkswagen 1.8 turbo engine program for Touring Car next year. Mr. Bymaster seems confident in that this program will help simplify the homologation process and take the guesswork out of the engine development aspects." Audi Sport North America will provide a complete sealed engine, turbo charger, and engine management package, with ample horsepower that will be regulated by SCCA/World Challenge with boost limitations and engine management settings. Erickson adds, "Looks like we've got a future with VW, this is very exciting!"
Mazda Raceway-Laguna Seca will be making history this weekend by hosting its first race ever that will be racing into the darkness of nighttime. The American Le Mans series will begin a four-hour endurance race in the daylight at 4:00 pm, Saturday the 16th and will receive the checkered flag at 8:00pm. This will be the first ever night race held on the Monterey Peninsula.
