Cylinder head services & machining

"All the power is in the head." Not entirely true but given that the bottom end is often fixed in the power equation it's quite often an accurate statement.

Our objectives are to generate not only higher flow but also to improve intake velocity and maximize volumetric efficiency (VE). Keeping in mind that the highest CFM numbers do not always make the most power. Cylinder filling, flame front propagation, driveability all must be accounted for.

"RPMs" The faster we spin the engine, while maintaining good VE, the more power per unit time our enigne is producing
. This requires valvetrain component selection of the highest quality and extremely detailed assembly techniques.

Cylinderhead Services:

  • Back cutting and polishing of the valves
  • Conversion from hydraulic to mechanical (solid) lifters
  • Oversized valve & seat installation
  • Cutting and flow optimization of the valve seats
  • Resurfacing / Raising the compression ratio
  • Port matching of the manifolds to the ports of the cylinder head
  • "Porting" (gas flowing) of the intake and exhaust ports
  • "cc-ing" (equalization) of combustion chamber volumes (not VR6)
  • Valve guide replacement, reshaping, cam clearancing
  • Heads are thoroughly cleaned via chemical or ultrasonic means
  • Installation of "full race" camshafts with correct setting of installed valve spring heights and seat pressures.

* "Match porting" or "gasket matching" is porting up to 1" from gasket mating surface on head and manifolds to align and smooth the manifold mating areas. Anti reversion "steps" are not removed, however care is taken to make them uniform and concentric.

** "Pocket Porting" is porting in the critical area of the "bowl" area just above the back side of the valve. This area is most criical to high flow cylinder heads.

*** "Full Porting" is as described above. Complete recontouring and carefull wall finish treatment of entire port. Prices show are minimum starting points and may go up from there depending on customer's requirements. Note: Hard to detect, "stealth porting" is available upon request.

DIY Special: Send us your bare head. We'll port it, install new guides, clean and return. You can then assemble the head yourself to save on labor costs.

DIY+: Same as above but we install new seats, port and 'rough in' the seats.
