020 Clutch Type Racing Differential
Category: Drivetrain: Differentials:
The Bildon Motorsport LSD is an adjustable clutch type differential, which is a reasonably priced alternative to similar VW Motorsport differentials. This differential is the type used most often at the highest levels of motorsport do to it's advantages over a spool or Torsen type.
When power is applied, it quickly engages the clutch packs, which in turn load the wheels. This means immediate reaction time. The Torsen or gear type of LSD must have slippage in order for it to engage both wheels which costs you time.
How clutch types differ from Torsen or gear type LSDs. As soon as you get one wheel off the ground the Torsen becomes an open differential, in order for it to work both wheels must have complete contact with the ground. When you lift a wheel after hitting a curb or a rock on stage and you are "on the gas" you instantly lose power. The Bildon LSD will remain engaged when a wheel lifts. Additionally, it will apply a 50% engagement under deceleration which can help prevent brake lockup and allow deeper "dives" in to the corner.
Different clutch packs are available for customizing your setup. For road racing the standard 100% lockup is recommended while for rallying a 50% lockup is available. The clutch disks will rarely wear out under most types of competition however replacement parts are also available.
DBV1810R Is a rebuild kit comprised of new clutch plates, two cone springs and two thrust washers.
